Are you a social scientist with experience in narrative methods and qualitative data analysis? Do you have an interest in environmental management and disaster risk reduction? Do you want to work in an interdisciplinary team of researchers and with stakeholders and participants in case studies in different parts of the world?
We are happy to announce that at IVM – VU Amsterdam we have a PhD vacancy related to the new EU-funded PerfectSTORM project. In the PerfectSTORM project (‘STOrylines of futuRe extreMes’), a team of scientists will study the hydrosocial processes behind drought-to-flood events to provide the understanding needed to prevent major disasters in the future. We will use a mixed-methods approach based on a combination of qualitative and quantitative storylines, using text analysis, innovative interactive visualisation and modelling.
The PhD project is supervised by Anne Van Loon, Johanna Koehler and Mel Rohse (ARU). The PhD will be based at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at VU Amsterdam and will be part of an active research group and a vibrant ECR community within the institute. They will benefit from interaction with researchers from a variety of disciplines within the PerfectSTORM project (incl. Alessia Matanó) and at IVM more widely and with stakeholders and participants in the case study regions.
Please find more information and how to apply on the VU website. The deadline is 6 April 2021. We strongly encourage applications from under-represented groups to increase the diversity of our team.
